Raquel Elizabeth Martinez is a Nicaraguan-American fiction writer, interested in genre-bending stories that explore the Latin American tradition of magical realism, sci-fi, and the strangeness of reality. Having grown up on a farm in Nicaragua, she especially loves to talk about her cats, her hikes deep in the woods, and the part of her that still believes there are fairies, somewhere in the brush. She is a second year MFA candidate at the Iowa Writers' Workshop.
