8:30 AM—3:15 PM

Iowa Memorial Union, Iowa City, Iowa

High school writers! Would you like to spend a day on the campus of the University of Iowa—the Writing University—taking creative writing classes with graduates of our renowned writing MFA programs?

Here’s what your day could look like:

• Try new genres: workshops in fiction, poetry, nonfiction, TV writing, playwriting, and translation
• Develop your craft: go to short classes focused on craft and feedback
• Find your people: connect with other high school writers
• Explore campus: located in Iowa City, a UNESCO City of Literature

Space is limited. We keep the group small on purpose, so you get more personal attention.

The event is free and lunch is provided.

The application period for this event opens on September 1, 2026.

To apply, fill out the application form. You will be asked to include a brief statement of interest and to request a Statement of Support from an English or Creative Writing teacher.

Applications must be submitted by October 1, 2026 at 11:59 PM US CST.

Decisions will be sent to all applicants by e-mail on Friday, October 9, 2026.

Questions? Reach us at iyws@uiowa.edu.

We hope to see you on campus in the fall!
